Day 14: Aci Castello
A visit to Aci Trezza
After Neil had a quick swim we made our way down to the road that separates Aci Castello from neighbouring Aci Trezza.
It’s about 0.8 of a mile between the two. We soon realised that Aci Trezza is a busier, touristy place than its smaller relative. There were excellent views of the 3 volcanic stacks which according to legend was where the Cyclops threw great stones at Odysseus.
The whole area is a marine reserve.

We decided to try a pistachio granita which are popular for breakfast here with a brioche. They were very nice consisting of ice, pistachio cream, sugar and whole crushed pistachio. A tasty but calorie dense treat.
After a stroll around….
… we climbed up onto the harbour wall to get a clear view of Mount Etna. Neil was convinced there were steam puffs from the vents periodically. I thought it was cloud.
By now it was really hot so we decided to return to the flat for a late lunch of leftovers. Afterwards it was time to cut into St Agatha’s nipple and found it was a cross between a snickers bar and a Ferraro Rocher.

Today was a feast day in the area with fireworks at midnight and early in the morning. When we went for a walk this evening the locals of all ages were all out for their ‘passeggiata.’

I can see why Facebook has a problem with you two.....poor old St.Agatha !!!
