Day 26: Lindau

 Saturday 6th July

Rain was forecast for the afternoon and so we decided to go to Lindau for the morning. The ferry port is a 10 minute walk away and by 10.30 we were sailing out of Bregenz hafen on a beautiful summer morning.

In 20 minutes we arrived in Lindau.

Lindau is in Germany. No passports or customs. It sits on a small island and is a lovely little place for a day trip. We found tourist information and followed the walking tour.

A children’s sandpit in front of the town hall in the main square. How lovely!

This mural, dated 1939, belongs to the Nazi era. The Nazis liked to promote romantic notions of a strong medieval Germany, which they hoped would inspire their armed forces. I’m glad it’s still there.

By 2.00pm rain was imminent and so we caught the train back to Bregenz hafen and got indoors just as the rain started, then stayed in and watched the footy.
