Day 28: Lunersee to Vandans

 Monday July 8th

Today the weather was set fair so we decided to head for the mountains. Bregenz is lovely, but apart from the Pfänder there aren’t many other mountains close by, so on Franz’ recommendation we went by train to Bludenz (40 mins) then by bus up to the Lünersee cable car (40mins), from which we went UP to the lake. (I had trouble with the map over this as I assumed we would go down to the lake, as that seemed to make sense, but the lake is a reservoir 2000m up.)

Originally we had planned to do a ridge walk but Jill wasn’t feeling brilliant (mainly due to motion sickness from the bus route up) and was rather hesitant about a high alpine route, so we decided instead on a long but lovely descent to Vandans.

Before we began the descent we had to go up!

We were knackered and both fell asleep briefly on the train. We’ve eaten a left over meal of ham, eggs and mixed veg, washed down with beer and we’re ready for an early night before we move on tomorrow.
